A quote that applies to our industry “You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” —John Bunyan

I have always been of the opinion that if you help others get where they want to go, you will ultimately arrive at your desired destination. I learned that lesson years ago, and it has led to a successful media career.

The real estate investing industry would do well to learn from this, as well. Currently, it is dominated by investors-turned-gurus—“teachers” for hire—when instead what we desperately need are true thought leaders.

We have a cowboy industry without regulation, and as a result unscrupulous operators have taken advantage of many hopeful investors by selling them huge coaching packages without even being investors themselves.

What we need to stabilize and elevate our industry are thought leaders who freely share insight and information so that others can take the same successful path.

At Think Realty, we practice what we preach. When I find someone who is willing to help fellow investors, I eagerly will leverage our outlets to disseminate that message. That is precisely what our industry-leading magazine and conference (within our company’s larger portfolio) exist for.

Abhi Golhar is a perfect example. Abhi is a true thought leader. He gives information based on his investing success without a monetization hook. I have put him on national radio shows, published his articles and given him stages from which to speak. His information is invaluable to an investor. And he has never clouded his message by trying to push an agenda.

I am proud to have sat on a panel helping choose the winners for the Think Realty Awards of Distinction this year. It is a distinguished list of those who truly educate, work and improve our industry.
