Women in Private Lending is a group that is incredibly near and dear to my heart — not just because of what it has become, but because of why it began.

Having mentors and people who genuinely lift you up can make or break a career. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have amazing mentors throughout my journey — not only strong women, but also many supportive men in the private lending industry who have challenged me, advocated for me, and helped shape my career. That support has mattered more than I can put into words, and it’s a big part of why this community exists today.

Women in Private Lending started simply. A few of us wanted to create a space — maybe a luncheon or a small get-together — where women in the industry could connect, talk openly, and support one another. There was no initial grand plan or long-term vision at the beginning. What there was, though, was a shared desire for community. That small idea has since grown into something far bigger than any of us could have imagined.

At the most recent American Association of Private Lenders Conference, the Women in Private Lending event became a standing-room only. The room was packed with women, many of whom I had never met before, and that moment was incredibly powerful. At Fortra’s conferences, I’ve had the privilege of watching this group quadruple in size over just the last few years. Seeing that growth firsthand has been both humbling and energizing. It’s proof that women in private lending are showing up, leaning in, and actively seeking connection.

In any industry, and in life in general, we are always going to encounter people or moments that challenge us. What truly makes a difference is being surrounded by people who support you, encourage you, and remind you of your value. That’s what Women in Private Lending represents. It’s a space where women can learn from one another, share experiences, and feel supported — whether they’re just entering the industry or leading organizations.

One of the things I love most about this group is that it isn’t about competition. While many of the women involved may be competitors in some capacity, they are also colleagues and friends. There’s a mutual understanding that success doesn’t have to be a zero-sum game. Supporting one another doesn’t diminish individual achievements — it strengthens the entire industry.

Life and careers are about balance, growth, and adaptability. Having people in your corner, people who understand the unique challenges and opportunities within private lending, makes navigating that journey so much more manageable. Women in Private Lending creates that support system. It fosters honest conversations, mentorship, and a sense of belonging that can be difficult to find elsewhere.

Watching this community evolve has been one of the greatest joys of my career. What began as informal gatherings has grown into a national network offering educational webinars, mentorship opportunities, and meaningful programming designed to support women at every stage of their professional journey. These initiatives are creating real impact, helping women build confidence, expand their networks, and step into leadership roles across the industry.

This group also wouldn’t be possible without the support of incredible companies and leaders who believe in its mission. Many of the men leading organizations in private lending have been strong advocates of Women in Private Lending, offering resources, visibility, and encouragement. Their support matters, and it reflects the collaborative spirit that makes this industry better when we work together.

As we look ahead to 2026, Women in Private Lending is focused on continuing that momentum. We’re excited to introduce more structured sponsorship opportunities, expand our educational offerings, and grow the community even further. The goal is simple: to make this group bigger, better, and more impactful — while staying true to the values that started it all.

If you’re a woman in private lending looking for connection, mentorship, or a community that understands your experience, there is a place for you here. And if you’re an organization or individual looking to support and invest in the future of this industry, we would love to have you involved.

The private lending industry is stronger when women are empowered, supported, and connected. Women in Private Lending is proof of what can happen when we come together with intention, generosity, and a shared belief in lifting one another up. I can’t wait to see where this community goes next, and all the incredible things the women within it will continue to accomplish.
