Housing prices are improving in many parts of the country and a new Gallup Poll says Americans now say real estate is the best long-term investment ranking ahead of stocks and gold.
The economy and personal finances poll in early April asked Americans to choose the best option for long-term investments. The poll offered the choices of real estate, stocks and mutual funds, gold, savings accounts and certificates of deposit, or bonds. Click on the chart below to enlarge.
Upper-income Americans are much more likely to say real estate and stocks are the best investment, possibly because of their experience with these types of investments, the poll stated.
Results for the Gallup poll are based on telephone interviews conducted April 3-6, 2014, with a random sample of 1,026 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states
and the District of Columbia.
