Three sets of new numbers came out this week and the jump in building permits in some areas could be the most encouraging.

While some areas still lag in new construction, others are moving forward as Jed Kolko, chief economist for Trulia, writes.

“NAR reported the fifth straight monthly drop in pending home sales. Wednesday Census reported a big jump in new building permits, to the highest level in 5 years, and Case-Shiller reported the largest month-over-month increase in home prices since April. What should we make of these mixed signals?” Kolko says.
