Envision it’s the 1950s and everyone has either greased hair or is wearing poodle skirts. One of my recent REI projects, a charming cottage I call The Pink Lady, takes guests back in time with nostalgic fifties vibes. Located in the heart of the Columbus, GA historic district, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom house listed on Airbnb has guests rockin’ and rollin’ in the Grease-themed rooms. When I first laid eyes on this shabby-classic home, I immediately had a vision for where I could take it.
Originally flaunting a faded mauve paint color, I chose a classic shade of pink called Memorable Rose. One of my favorite things to do is restore these beautiful historic homes, then name and theme each I decorate and design. It came about so easily from my great love of the movie Grease. Making this home truly unique, I brought back elements of the fifties and furnished it with vintage finds from local shops in Columbus. It truly was a joy putting in so much work down to the last detail, from hand-drawn portraits of the Grease characters to the antique Wurlitzer Jukebox! Something I feel that takes decorating to the next level and makes a space feel welcoming are those “little” details. The little details are what provide the wow factor.
We have guests who stay from all over the country and they love the nostalgia The Pink Lady provides. I can’t explain where my inspiration always comes from, but when it strikes, I give it everything I have! It’s an incredible feeling to bring distressed historical homes back to life for generations to come. The Uptown Historic District is the best that Columbus, GA has to offer with walkability to the exciting Broadway area, and the Riverwalk along the Chattahoochee River. Y’all come on and visit now!
