As founder of both AAPL and Geraci Law, I may be a bit biased when I talk about how both companies together make an impact on the private lending space. Both companies share a common mission: to serve the private lending industry to the best of our abilities. Besides being lawyers at Geraci Law, we consider ourselves to be advocates of our clients and advocates of the industry overall. AAPL does as well.

Neither AAPL or Geraci get paid for the amount of time we spend:

  1. Lobbying Congress to recognize the private lending industry and the impact Congress unintentionally has on it.
  2. Helping Congress understand what private lending is and how it helps the entire lending ecosystem.

From discussions with Congress on HMDA to helping state officials understand the licensing and other regulatory landscapes they paint that burden private lenders, AAPL and Geraci work together to ensure the voices of private lenders are heard loud and clear.

When the nation’s top law firm focusing on private lenders and the largest private lender association work together, the industry knows their interests are being represented. From defeating state bills to attending meetings and events in Washington, D.C., to helping the Senate and the House understand the undue burden they often place on private money lenders, Geraci and the American Association of Private Lenders go to bat for the industry.

True Education

We strive to serve the industry by self-regulating as well. The more we do to improve the private lending industry overall, the less regulation will be imposed on us. To that end, we have created several educational courses designed to teach new private lenders the ropes and to harness all our resources, including relationships with experienced private lenders, to fund their difficult loans.

At Geraci, we take pride in staying abreast of regulatory compliance and being in a position to update our portion of the Certified Private Lending Associate as well as the Certified Fund Manager course we help AAPL offer.

This is important for a variety of reasons besides the obvious:

  1. The professional designations have been sought after by many private lenders to distinguish themselves.
  2. These courses demonstrate to both state and federal regulators that students have taken the extra measure to educate themselves. Because we are self-policing and truly educating ourselves on trends, laws, and other developments, additional regulations shouldn’t be passed to burden private lenders.

Your Network is Your Net Worth

The partnership between Geraci and AAPL has been valuable to private lenders. AAPL members are typically Geraci conference attendees and vice versa. Between the two companies, we attract most of the private lending universe, get them in the room together, and assist them in doing deals together. When someone approaches us at Geraci, our first question is “Who can we introduce you to?” Then we try to do so whether they’re a client of ours or not.

Why?

Because it’s not all about the money. It’s about helping and growing the private lending ecosystem. Geraci’s brand purpose is to provide peace of mind; we try to deliver it in every interaction. Whether that’s on a set of loan documents or introducing private lenders to their next warehouse facility, etc., just like AAPL, we believe in the industry and want to see it thrive.

Who Do You Need to Know to Grow?

What makes the Geraci and AAPL partnership unique is the ability of both organizations to bring the industry together, even direct competitors, to learn from and grow with each other. If I had one wish, it would be to continue for years to come to serve the private lending market and assist in its continuing growth.

Private lending isn’t something “nice to have.” Private lenders are key to moving properties from a rehabber to a new family swiftly, unlike other lenders that move more slowly. The industry is, therefore, a cornerstone for keeping our economy moving.

We love to serve, and we want to give you peace of mind. We will be here through thick and thin to assist you and this industry we love as best as we can.
