3 attributes that guarantee success in business and in life blog by Engelo RumoraAs many of you may or may not know, I’m crazy. Literally.

I’m a bit nuts. I’m extreme, loud, obnoxious, and one rude Aussie. I’m often known for being too “intense” and “full-on”. These traits are all true to the very “T”, but allow me to share with you my core value traits.

Being crazy and loud has always turned heads, but these three traits are what I have and what I offer that have gotten me far in business, and life and have left footprints on the hearts of many people I have encountered.

Honesty

This trait is a necessity, in my opinion, to conduct in business and in life. To be able to openly discuss any thoughts/opinions you have without hesitancy of feelings getting hurt will make or break the relationship. The underlying ingredient here is trust – which is built over time – not just over a single phone call/Skype call, meeting or cup of coffee.

As I mentioned before: I am blunt, extreme and intense. It’s really just my way of being honest and passionate about what I think and do. There is no way for a business to move forward in a positive direction without having the ability to practice openness and honesty. Many times members of my team or personal relations do not like what I tell them, but if you know me, you’ll realize that while I don’t hold back in sharing my opinion or thoughts, never do I mean to offend.

It’s just the way I have to be, as honesty is a value imprinted on the core of my being.

Loyalty

This is really what I consider to be my “Golden Rule.” If you’re honest with me and you demonstrate your loyalty, become a part of our vision, and commit to the team, I will be 100% loyal to you in return.

I have definitely experienced a certain amount of disloyalty in both business and life. A lack of loyalty is revealed in daily happenings from a salesman promoting himself and trying to steer you away from the company he works for to someone you worked with discrediting your business behind your back.

This is a loyalty issue. No question. If you violate that and go around to accomplish your own agenda, there is no coming back. This does not mean I will treat you any differently, but you will never again have my “all in.” When I’m in, I’m all in. And when I’m out, well I’m all out.

Not Greedy

Greed is the green-eyed monster often found lurking in the corners of business.

Greed is known to destroy businesses, brands and reputations.

In my life thus far, I have not witnessed any one good thing to come from greed. When you are chasing the dollar, even when you catch it, it will never be enough. I have never chased a dollar. I chase my vision. When you are following a vision and stick with it even in the hard times, the financial benefit will always be more valuable.

I’m often known for “throwing money” to people who, if they come to me with greed, I will happily pay them whatever it is requested, just to **** off. (Excuse my French, in my defense I did mention I was rude 😉

Teams of people who have formed the greatest, most lucrative companies in the world didn’t do it for solely a buck. It was accomplished for a much higher purpose.

To sum it up: as quoted by Mary Kay Ash, “People are definitely a company’s greatest asset. It doesn’t make any difference whether the product is cars or cosmetics. A company is only as good as the people it keeps.”
